The act of hand-washing several-dozen RVs a day caused immense strain on the employees at Fraserway RV. The time-consuming, back-breaking work with garden hoses and hand brushes only allowed staff to complete one RV per every hour to hour-and-a-half. With 7 locations (in Delta, BC; Kamloops, BC; Abbotsford, BC; Airdrie, AB; Lacombe, AB; Leduc, AB; and Bedford, NS), Fraserway RV was experiencing large volumes of employee turnover, repetitive-use injuries and overall fatigue.
Each location could wash about 30 to 50 units per day when the demand was much higher. Additionally, the amount of water and resources being used was exceptionally high. On top of employee dissatisfaction, the supplies needed to hand-wash so many RVs every day ran the company’s overhead costs through the roof.
There had to be a better way for the employees and processes alike to improve. Fraserway RV chose to install Bitimec 626 EZ Battery Models at all 7 of their locations. The mobile brush-washing machinery can effectively clean the large recreation vehicles from top to bottom at a fast pace and with much less water and cleaning solution than needed for hand-washing. In fact, the equipment cleans one RV in less than 8 minutes, a vast improvement in comparison to spending upwards of 1.5 hours on one vehicle.
In addition, the brush-washing technology is intuitive and easy to use, meaning the need for manual labour is virtually irrelevant. No improvements were needed, as each washing location easily accepted the Bitimec machines requiring only 4.5’ around the vehicles. Not only did the employees’ morale improve drastically, but the efficiency of the RV business has increased, customer satisfaction is higher and the cost-effectiveness is greatly improved.
Fraserway RV now has greater staff retention, and employees are generally happier to have the Bitimec equipment as a part of the washing process. Employee no-show numbers have dropped since implementing the technology, and there’s far less employee turnover.
